Business In Traralgon

Traralgon boasts a well developed and popular commercial centre that attracts new industry to the region as well as supporting the growth of new and established businesses.

Industry

The municipality is an area of contrasts with diverse environments ranging from the rich agricultural river flats to the rugged, yet picturesque rain forested slopes of the Strzelecki ranges. Underlying the river flats are vast deposits of brown coal, in most cases only a few metres from the surface. The area generates 85 per cent of Victorias electricity requirements and is the largest generator of power in Australia. The dairy and beef cattle industries contribute significantly to Victorias agricultural standing.

The main industries in the Traralgon area include agriculture (vegetables, beef, lamb, dairy and wool), forestry and timber, power generation, fishing, aviation, defence, oil and gas, manufacturing (including timber processing, food and vegetable products), education and hospitality and tourism.

While these industries employ people with specialist, industry-related skills, the companies and businesses in these industries also have a need to fill jobs requiring more general skills or specialist skills covering everything from transport and distribution to sales and marketing to finance and accounting.

Other major industries in the area include Australian Paper Mills, one of the largest pulp and paper making facilities in the southern hemisphere at Maryvale, Monash University, Gippsland Group Training and the Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE, the Australian Securities and Investment Commissions National Information Processing Centre and National Foods.

Listings on visitvictoria.com

Did you know all of Destination Gippsland’s marketing activity directs the consumer to the inspiredbygippsland.com.au website? This is Gippsland’s page on the State tourism website, visitvictoria.com . This site receives over 30,000 visitors each month. In the last six months the visitation to this website has increased over 12 percent. Do your business a favour and make sure you’re on it!

Benefits include:

 • Higher searchability: One of the ways google ranks listings on a page is to look at where the URL of a business appears on other websites. The more a business URL appears, generally the higher the ranking.
 • Distribution to the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW): When a product is listed on visitvictoria.com, all national tourism product is stored by ATDW. This content is electronically accessible by tourism business owners (operators), wholesalers, retailers and distributors for use in their websites and booking systems. Therefore the opportunities for bookings are increased.
 • Opportunities to add deals and packages: Every operator that has a Visit Victoria listing can add up to 3 deals and packages that will be displayed both on the operator’s listing page, and in the deals & packages section of visitvictoria.com. This is a very cost-effective method of advertising.
 • Superior content: Operators have control over content, whereas in many free listings this control is restricted. On visitvictoria.com operators can ensure details are correct, and images and content can be updated regularly.
 • Most importantly, those operators that have listings will be given priority for involvement in marketing activity such as print advertising, eNewsletters, famils, PR, and tourism audits.

You can have a look at what is currently on the visitvictoria.com/ website.

If you are not listed here then register your business on visit.victoria.com now and benefit from the extra exposure.
